Ed Hill, chairman of the board of CCRC, recalled when he first saw the building, which was wrapping up construction. "It was a shell a year ago -- a beautiful shell, but a shell," he said. It now has various areas where children of all preschool ages play and learn. There's also a playground. In addition to child care and a preschool program, the center offers educational opportunities for parents. At the birthday bash, several children joined Yaroslavsky in blowing out candles placed in the top layer of a stack of cupcakes.
