CHEVRON SELECTS U.S. ROBOTICS' COURIER AS RECOMMENDED CORPORATE PRODUCT
SKOKIE, Ill., June 22 /PRNewswire/ -- U.S. Robotics, Inc., (NASDAQ: USRX) today announced the Chevron Information Technology Co., the IT branch of the international petroleum company Chevron Corp., selected the U.S. Robotics Courier V.32bis modem for use internally, and recommended it for general use corporate-wide.
San Francisco-based Chevron, number 10 on the Fortune 500 list, placed an initial order for both desktop and rackmount modems. "We looked at modems from several vendors and found that the Courier best fit our needs," said Loren Quan, communications analyst for Chevron Information Technology Company. "Many of our modem users don't want to spend a lot of time making a modem work. The Courier performs well, is easy to use, and its documentation is written in plain, customer English."
"Being selected by Chevron continues our longtime strategy of joining with the world's leading data communications users to give them the quality products and performance they need," said Jon Zakin, U.S. Robotics executive vice president, sales and marketing.
The Chevron announcement follows closely Sears Technology Services, Inc.'s commitment to use U.S. Robotics' Total Control NAS-48-L for their network. The product will create a centralized network control center for the company responsible for the network services of all Sears business groups including Sears Merchandise Group, Allstate, Dean Witter Financial and Coldwell Banker.
