CHEVRON CHRISTENS NEW TANKER, THE JAMES N. SULLIVAN, IN BRAZIL

CHEVRON CHRISTENS NEW TANKER, THE JAMES N. SULLIVAN, IN BRAZIL
SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- In a ceremony held today at the Ishikawajima do Brasil Estaleiros S.A. (ISHIBRAS) shipyard in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Arlene Sullivan christened Chevron's newest tanker, the JAMES N. SULLIVAN, named for her husband, who is vice chairman of Chevron Corporation (NYSE: CHV).
This latest addition brings Chevron's worldwide fleet to 41. Under a contract with Mitsui & Co. and Ishikawajima Harima Heavy Industries Company, Ltd. (IHI) of Japan, the JAMES N. SULLIVAN is the first of three identical 132,000 deadweight ton, double hull tankers being built for Chevron by IHI's Brazilian affiliate, ISHIBRAS. The next two are scheduled for delivery in February and August 1993.
The JAMES N. SULLIVAN is part of an ongoing Chevron fleet retirement and renewal program. The new tanker will carry approximately one million barrels of crude oil on each voyage. This size will allow it to be effectively utilized in any of a number of regular Chevron trades -- West Africa to the U.S. East Coast, Indonesia to the U.S. West Coast and the Middle East to the U.S.
Jim Sullivan, who was present with his wife at the ceremony, is a native of San Francisco and a graduate of the University of Notre Dame. He began his career in 1961 with Chevron Research Company and then progressed through a number of operating positions both in the U.S. and abroad. In 1983, he became a corporate vice president, was elected a director in 1988 and assumed one of two vice chairman positions in 1989. Jim Sullivan is also a director of the American Petroleum Institute, the California Chamber of Commerce, the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the National Association of Manufacturers and the Bay Area Economic Forum.
