CHEVRON CHEMICAL DEVELOPS ENVIRONMENTALLY SAFE AIRPORT RUNWAY DEICER

CHEVRON CHEMICAL DEVELOPS ENVIRONMENTALLY SAFE AIRPORT RUNWAY DEICER
SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Chevron Chemical Co. has developed and is now marketing an environmentally safe runway deicer for use on airport runways in the United States. This new potassium acetate runway deicer is marketed under the name of Chevron E36 LRD Liquid Runway Deicer.
Although potassium acetate deicers have been used by the military for over a year, they were just cleared Nov. 22 for commercial airside use by the Federal Aviation Administration.
Chevron E36 is a high performance deicer and is environmentally superior to other liquid deicers, said Dan Walters, manager of Deicing Technology for Chevron Chemical Co.
"Chevron is proud to offer airports such an outstanding deicer," said Walters. "We hope that E36 will help solve many airports' storm- water runoff problems."
Airports are under increased pressure by the EPA to minimize contaminants leaving airport runways in their storm-water runoff. Chevron E36 is readily biodegradable and has the lowest biological oxygen demand of any liquid on the market.
"Although E36 is environmentally safe, we made sure it was not at the expense of performance," said Walters. "It meets SAE specification AMS 1432 and FAA Advisory Circular No. 150/5200-30A CHG1 for potassium acetate liquid deicers."
Colorless and odorless, E36 can be stored and applied with the same equipment as used for glycols, the most commonly used runway deicer. It is fast working and effective at temperatures below 0 F.
Chevron has been in the environmentally safe acetate deicer business for more than five years. In addition to runway deicers, Chevron manufactures and markets acetate-based highway and commercial deicers.
Headquartered in San Ramon, Chevron Chemical Co. manufactures, markets, distributes and develops industrial products worldwide.
