CHEVROLET DONATES LIVE AID CAMARO TO ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME AND MUSEUM

LOS ANGELES, March 24 /PRNewswire/ -- A Camaro "signature car" inscribed with the names of dozens of rock stars who appeared at the 1985 Live Aid concert in Philadelphia will be donated to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland, Ron Daniels, Chevrolet area marketing manager-West, announced today.
The vehicle was on display at a press luncheon held today at the Whisky a Go-Go to launch the '93 Camaro advertising which features a rock 'n' roll theme.
"Rock was the music of choice for the post World War II generation, and Camaro became the calling card," said Daniels. "Camaro and rock music grew up together and are as inseparable as cheeseburgers and fries. It gives us great pleasure to donate this signature car, autographed by many rock 'n' roll stars, to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in the name of Chevrolet and Live Aid."
In 1985, Chevrolet became a major sponsor of the Live Aid concert in Philadelphia on July 13. As part of this sponsorship, Chevrolet provided two 1985 Camaro Sports Coupes for the backstage area at the concert. The musicians were encouraged to sign the cars, and many did.
It was agreed at the time that the "signature" cars would be raffled off or donated in the name of the Live Aid Charity. Any proceeds from the cars would be turned over to Live Aid.
One car was used as a sweepstakes prize at a Chevrolet-sponsored concert call "Drive Aid" at New York's Radio City Music Hall with proceeds going to the Live Aid effort. The car was the grand prize in an eight-city sweepstakes sponsored by Chevrolet and MTV. The second car was placed in storage at a Detroit warehouse while Chevrolet researched a worthy organization for the donation. Chevrolet chose the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, a major cultural attraction, containing a wide variety of music items ranging from the early days of rock 'n' roll to current music tastes.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum is beginning on-site preparation, and it will celebrate the start of construction in June of this year.
