lifestyle finally caught up to Andre and Michelle Chevalier, two of the top high school basketball coaches in the area.

Andre Chevalier has resigned as boys' basketball coach at Cleveland High of Reseda and Michelle Chevalier has resigned as girls' basketball coach at Sylmar High. Both cited a need to spend more time together and with their children, Andre III, 8, and Ashley, 4.

``We've put up quite a balancing act the past couple of years, and at some point it becomes too much,'' Michelle Chevalier said. ``This will give us a chance to focus on our family, spend the holidays together, travel together and watch our son play football.''

Andre Chevalier will remain at Cleveland, where he is the dean of students. Michelle Chevalier will remain at Sylmar, where she is a teacher. Les Thompson Thompson, city, Canada

``We'll still be coaching and involved in helping kids realize their dreams of playing in college,'' Michelle Chevalier said. ``That's what it's always been about. ... We work together well and there's a tremendous amount of talent in this area so we're excited to see what we can do with it.''

The club season isn't as long as the high school season, especially during the holidays, when the family was often apart at different high school tournaments.

Both Chevaliers led their high school teams to the City Section semifinals last season.

Michelle Chevalier guided Sylmar to its third consecutive Valley Mission League title and second consecutive City semifinal. The Spartans advanced to the City championship game in 2003.
