It consists of a nation-wide network of more than 200 food banks and food-rescue organizations that serve virtually every county in the United States as well as Puerto Rico.  - The Nation's Food Bank Network, the non-profit organization A non-profit organization (abbreviated "NPO", also "non-profit" or "not-for-profit") is a legally constituted organization whose primary objective is to support or to actively engage in activities of public or private interest without any commercial or monetary profit purposes.  with a mission to create a hunger-free America. America's Second Harvest will be presenting the award at the next Food Shippers Conference.

In January 2005, CHEP and America's Second Harvest announced the formation of an industry alliance to simplify the donation process of food and grocery products from companies using CHEP pallets, and to facilitate the return of empty pallets for inspection and maintenance. The program also spares the Network some of the costs associated with buying and transporting pallets. Food and grocery product donors no longer have to switch to white wood pallets or face lost equipment charges, but rather report any transfers of CHEP pallets to the America's Second Harvest Network. This model was developed to address the unique challenges faced by the Network in its fight to create a hunger-free America.

"We are pleased the alliance has allowed for ease of donations to America's Second Harvest, are particularly thankful our pallets could help bring aid to the hurricane victims in their time of need. Through our participation, we hope to help stamp out hunger in America," said Per Ohstrom, Director, Marketing, CHEP USA.

By allowing donations to stay on CHEP blue pallets instead of switching to a generic white wood pallet, America's Second Harvest was able to receive donations faster and, in turn, facilitate 52 million meals in aid to Katrina evacuees Resident or transient persons who have been ordered or authorized to move by competent authorities, and whose movement and accommodation are planned, organized and controlled by such authorities. .
