CHEMICAL FELLS FOUR FIREFIGHTERS.

Firefighters were called at 11 a.m. to a mobile home in the 7000 block of Backus Road. As they were mopping up, a 2-1/2- to 3-gallon plastic jug containing a brownish-yellow liquid spilled, said department spokesman Tommie Wofford.

Six firefighters and a Kern County sheriff's deputy exposed to the liquid - described as having a fruity odor - experienced headaches and dizziness. Four of the firefighters were taken to Antelope Valley Hospital, Wofford said.

Because of the chemical, which had not been identified, and the presence of laboratory beakers, deputies suspect that the mobile home might have been a methamphetamine laboratory.

Damage to the mobile home was listed at $30,000.
