CHEMFIX TECHNOLOGIES, INC. ANNOUNCES OPENING OF 'NOW' RECYCLING FACILITY AT HOUMA, LA.

METAIRIE, La., Jan. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Chemfix Technologies, Inc. (CTI) (NASDAQ: CFIX) today announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, VenVirotek of Louisiana, Inc. (VVL) had begun operations to recycle nonhazardous oil field wastes ("NOW") at its facility located in Houma, La.
David L. Donaldson, president and chief executive officer of VVL, stated that the facility was fully permitted by the state of Louisiana to solidify and stabilize all types of nonhazardous oil field wastes, including oil- and water-based muds, cuttings and crude oil-contaminated soils from oil spill cleanup operations. The permit allows NOW received at the facility to be recycled into a beneficial reuse material, Naturfil(R), which will be used as levee stabilization and construction material or as offsite landfill cover at approved landfills. He further stated that the newly constructed treatment operation has the capacity to treat up to 1.5 million barrels of NOW on an annual basis which, at full capacity, could produce revenues of up to $7 million to $8 million per year.
The VVL central-site facility is strategically located in Houma on the Intracoastal Canal with barge-mooring and truck receiving facilities for NOW from the Gulf of Mexico, as well as Louisiana land-based sites. The United States's offshore rig count in the Gulf showed an increase of 55 percent from July 1992 to the present, and this growth is expected to continue into 1993.
Chemfix Technologies, Inc. operates three other similar facilities in California permitted to recycle nonhazardous waste streams from oil and gas exploration and crude contaminated soils using the Chemfix(R) process.
Chemfix Technologies, Inc. is an environmental services company that provides analysis, treatment and recycling of hazardous and special waste materials for industry and government.
