``I have all the respect in the world for him,'' Chelios said. ``He's a great player, a great ambassador for the game and soft-spoken kid.''

Chelios also insisted that he would be doing nothing out of the ordinary to stop him, especially since the Ducks' power play is so lethal and the two-referee system will be in place.

``You've got to be real disciplined, you've got to play it by the book.''

``Detroit has great players and we are going to do our best to hit and bang them, too.''

Kariya certainly didn't back down when asked about being hit.

``I enjoy the physical part of the game; it gets me into the game, gets me focused,'' said Kariya, who shattered his career high in penalty minutes with 40 this season. ``They can think whatever they want, it's a free country.''
