Also at AVC, a backpack survival seminar will be held May 2 from 9 to 6 p.m. in Room 102.

The seminar, led by avid survival trekker and AVC instructor Lee Bergthold, is a one-day intensive course that will teach basic survival techniques such as preparing for the unexpected, Standerfer said.

The course is a prerequisite for those interested in signing up for seven- to 10-day hiking trips scheduled by the 1999 Corporate and Community Education program, Standerfer said.

Applications are being accepted for taking the radio license exam May 19 to qualify for repairing and aircraft and marine radios, Standerfer said.
