Cookbook pick

The Quaker Oatmeal Kitchens have unveiled the ``Quaker Oats Favorite Recipe Collection: Celebrating 120 Years of Great Tasting Family Classics'' (Time-Life Books; $14.95). It's filled with 70 classic, award-winning and lower-fat oatmeal recipes for cookies, muffins and cereals as well as breads, main dishes and desserts. Many of the recipes, such as Quaker's Best Oatmeal Cookies and Applesauce Oatmeal Muffins, have appeared on the Quaker Oats package in the past and are perennial favorites. Some of the recipes have been winners in the Quaker Oatmeal Bake It Better Recipe Contests. The book also has color photographs of many of the creations as well as trivia and tips such as how to make the chewiest cookies. Nutritional information for all recipes is included in the back of the book.

Soft sales

Fewer consumers are reaching for Diet Pepsi. It fell from fourth to seventh place on Beverage Digest's list of best-selling soft drinks for 1996. Coke Classic and regular Pepsi were Nos. 1 and 2, followed by Diet Coke, Coca-Cola's Sprite, Dr. Pepper, Pepsico's Mountain Dew, Diet Pepsi and 7-Up.
