There was a time when Cheryl Giuliano downed Tab and doughnuts for breakfast. And the day's diet went downhill from there.

``I was a huge junk-food eater,'' said Giuliano, a New Yorker. ``My desk drawer at work was like a concession stand Concession stand is the term used to refer to a place where patrons can purchase snacks or food at a cinema, fair, Stadium, or other entertainment venue. Some events or venues contract out the right to sell food to third parties. . I figured I was really doing something good for myself when I switched to Milky Way Lite.''

There was of course a downside to the sugar-coated life of this junk-foodie. She was sick all the time.

Giuliano visited a holistic health holistic health,

practitioner who suggested she trash the candy, cola and chips for three months. The trial period turned into a transformation, and Giuliano decided to pursue a diet devoid of refined sugar, red meat, fried foods, dairy products and wheat.

Just one problem. ``I was learning to eat better, but I was still a nosher nosh   Informal

,'' she said. That craving led to Gifts Organic, a company that creates gift baskets of organic and natural foods.

Giuliano acknowledges that the word ``natural'' is often misused. Although some states have guidelines for organic foods, federal guidelines still are forthcoming. For now, she said, ``We look at the ingredients. The important thing is that there are no preservatives preservatives,

Among the gift basket assortments in her catalog are the Energizer basket ($75), which includes protein- and carbohydrate-rich snacks such as peanut butter, energy bars, honey and dried fruits; and the Mediterranean basket ($175) with gourmet pastas, sauces, spices, oils, caffeine-free espresso and biscotti Biscotti (plural of Italian biscotto, roughly meaning "twice baked") are crisp Italian cookies often containing nuts or flavored with anise. Traditionally, biscotti are made by baking cookie dough in two long slabs, cutting these into slices, and reheating them to dry . Custom baskets also are available and start at $35.
