CHECK IT OUT LIBRARY FINES FORGIVEN UNTIL SATURDAY.Byline: Daily News PALMDALE - In celebration of National Library Week, the Palmdale libraries will forgive fines on overdue books. For ``Fine Free Week,'' the libraries will cancel the fine on items returned in person, in the book drops, or via mail until Saturday. Accrued fines for material returned previously will still be due. National Library Week is a nationwide observance sponsored by the American Library Association American Library Association, founded 1876, organization whose purpose is to increase the usefulness of books through the improvement and extension of library services. . It celebrates libraries and librarians, the pleasures and importance of reading, and invites use and support of local libraries. Monday was ``Check-It-Out-Yourself Day.'' Both Palmdale libraries have a ``SelfCheck'' machine at which patrons can check out items themselves. By using the SelfCheck machines Monday, patrons helped the library qualify to enter a drawing for one of five $1,000 prizes sponsored by the device's manufacturer, 3M Library Systems.
