CHECK INCIDENT LEADS TO CHASE, CRASH, ARRESTS : PAIR SUSPECTED OF FORGERY, CARRYING SHOTGUN IN VEHICLE.

Two Canyon Country men, who authorities said tried to cash a stolen check, were arrested Wednesday after a brief car chase that reached speeds of 80 mph and ended in a crash near downtown Newhall.

, 21, and Sidney Benaske, 24, were jailed on suspicion of forgery, a weapons violation and evasion of arrest.

``I called the maker of the check and they said it was stolen out of a truck,'' Garrett said.
