Cesar Chavez - United States labor leader who organized farm workers (born 1927) Cesar Estrada Chavez, Chavez once lived with his family will receive a ceremonial plaque today in Oxnard, designating it as a historical point of interest by the Ventura County Cultural Heritage Board. ``Cesar was such a great man, so to have something dedicated with his name is important,'' said Dorothy Ramirez, a member of the board who tracked down the Chavez dwelling. ``This has been a long time coming for the city of Oxnard.'' The property behind the house currently owned by Martha Navarro at 452 North Garfield St. in Oxnard was the site of a floorless shed that housed members of the Chavez family. Navarro's family gave the shed to the Chavez family free of charge in 1938, during the local walnut harvest. The shed eventually was demolished to make room for the Herrera Bakery, which is on the corner of the Navarro property. The County Cultural Heritage Board decided to make the property a historical point of interest, rather than a historical landmark. According to according to prep. 1. The county's other cities have their own ordinances. This union changed from a workers' rights organization that helped workers get unemployment insurance to that of Union. Chavez fought for migrant workers' rights.
