Water polo enthusiasts in Santa Clarita have been trying for more than a year to get Foothill League high schools to adopt the sport. A key turning point could come this week. The district principals are scheduled to vote on the matter during a meeting Wednesday.

Water polo has rapidly gained interest in the area since the Santa Clarita Water Polo Club was formed about two years ago. The club, which includes players from each of the district's high schools, is based out of the Santa Clarita Aquatic Center, where the high school teams also would play.
