CHATTER: WHITE SOX'S BORCHARD PLAYING IN PUERTO RICO.

Joe Borchard spent his 24th birthday Monday far from familiar surroundings. The Camarillo High product is trying to enhance his chances of earning a starting job with the Chicago White Sox The Chicago White Sox are a professional baseball team based in Chicago, Illinois. The White Sox are a member of the Central Division of Major League Baseball's American League. From to the present, the White Sox have played in U.S.  next season by spending the offseason plying in the Puerto Rican winter league.

According to Borchard's agent, Jim McDonald, the White Sox wanted Borchard to get additional experience because of the time lost recovering from a broken foot in the spring. Borchard fouled a ball off his foot early in spring training and was sidelined until late April. He spent most of the season with Triple-A Charlotte (N.C.) but is expected to compete for a starting role with Chicago this spring.

Borchard entered the week batting just .227 for the Mayaguez Indians, but he was among the team leaders with nine RBI RBI
