For those who believe intelligence and running three miles don't go together, consider what the Crusaders have accomplished in the classroom. The team will be honored during the school's Jan. 10 chapel, when the school will hand out individual certificates and raise the banner. ... Proof attention to fundamentals pays off: The Verdugo Hills boys' basketball team had 57 rebounds this week against San Fernando, including 19 offensive rebounds. The Dons have one 6-foot-5 player, Lucas Macauley and several 6-2 and 6-3 players, Daniel Figueroa, Daniel Dingman and Luis Cortes. Against a smaller San Fernando team, the players were able to box out or penetrate the zone and get the ball. Figueroa had 18 rebounds, Macauley and Dingman had 10 each and Cortes had nine.
