Girls' basketball followers won't have to wait long to find out how some of the top teams in the region stack up against each other.

Ten of the best will square off in the High-Five Classic, which will be Tuesday through Dec. 7 at Valencia High. Among some of the most intriguing games will be Oak Park against Golden League champion Antelope Valley This article is about the Los Angeles County region. Oak Park should be much improved with the addition of All-Area selection Lyndsey Medders, who transferred from Harvard-Westlake of Studio City after last season. Harvard-Westlake is also playing in the tournament but was placed in a different pool.

Foothill League power Saugus will open against Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks at 6 p.m. Tuesday and will play Oak Park the next day at 6 p.m. The Centurions return four post players 6-foot or taller, but point guard AnnMarie Summerhays will try to play the entire season with a torn ACL See access control list.

Summerhays originally was going to have surgery on the knee, but when she found out it would keep her out of her senior season, she sought a second opinion: Dr. Robert Kerlan of the Lakers. Kerlan said she could play during the season with a custom-fitted brace that would stabilize her knee. She plans to have the surgery as soon as the season is over.

``It's a piece of work,'' Summerhays said of the brace. ``I've never seen anything like it. But my knee feels great. I'm extremely lucky that I can play this year.''

Ten College of the Canyons College of the Canyons is one of the fastest-growing community colleges in the state.
