Asked whether he'd be interested in the job, Krumpe replied, ``Very much so, but I'm just waiting to see if they'll contact me. I'm real proud of what we've been able to do here at LMU LMU Ludwig Maximilians Universität (München)

Krumpe, who was an assistant at UCLA from 1995 to '97, was one of three finalists, along with Sampson and Fitzgerald, three years ago. He also was up for the job in 2001.

Sampson, an assistant coach at UCLA for the 1985 championship, is the national team coach for Costa Rica and would be a longshot.

Salcedo has been an assistant coach for the Bruins for three years and was an All-American at UCLA, where he played from 1989 to 93 before playing five years with the Galaxy.

ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

Bryce Taylor

Senior

Harvard-Westlake

In some ways it was an up-and-down week for the Oregon-bound shooting guard. It began Saturday when he went head-to-head with Sebastian Telfair, a Lincoln High of Brooklyn, N.Y., standout, in the 10th Annual Pangos Dream Classic boys' basketball showcase at Pauley Pavilion. Taylor scored 31 points and had 15 rebounds against Telfair's 37 points. Lincoln won 85-82 in overtime, but Taylor more than held his own against one of the nation's best prep players. Taylor was just so-so in his next two games, scoring a combined 24 points in a victory over Chaminade of West Hills and a loss to Loyola of Los Angeles. But he capped the week with a 51-point, 16-rebound effort in a 105-76 victory over Alemany of Mission Hills.

Jamie Artsis

Senior

Harvard-Westlake

Artsis, above left, scored three goals for Harvard-Westlake of Studio City in its Mission League opener, a 4-0 victory over Chaminade of West Hills on Wednesday.

``This was the best we've played this season,'' Artsis said after the game.

It was the second time this season that Artsis, a senior who will attend Michigan, scored three goals in a game. She scored two in her next game to give her five for the week.

The Wolverines (7-4-1, 2-0) are ranked No. 1 by the Daily News.

UP AND COMER

Mike Sweeney

Hart

The 5-foot-6 freshman point guard is one of the brightest prospects in the Hart High of Newhall boys' basketball program. An excellent shooter and ball handler, he reminds the coaching staff of former standout Mike Gentry. Sweeney, who also is an honors student, is averaging a team-high 15 points a game for Hart's freshman team.
