CHATTER: TRANSFERRING NOTHING NEW FOR EX-SIMI VALLEY STAR.Byline: Vincent Bonsignore Staff Writer When former Simi Valley Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969. boys' basketball standout Dustin Villepigue decided to transfer from Gonzaga University after last season, he had three objectives - find a place to play basketball this season, win a championship and remain an attractive prospect to major Division I college programs. Villepigue, a 6-foot-9 center, achieved all three goals. As a result, he has a big decision to make on where he will resume his Division I career next season. After helping Dixie State Community College in Utah win the Scenic Western Athletic Conference The Western Athletic Conference (commonly referred to as the WAC, pronounced "wack") was formed on July 27, 1962, making it the sixth oldest of the 11 college athletic conferences currently participating in the NCAA's Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS; formerly championship, Villepigue is being heavily recruited by UNLV UNLV University of Nevada, Las Vegas , Pepperdine, Rutgers, Washington State and Vanderbilt. He will likely make his decision in early May. ``I couldn't have imagined things working out any better than they have,'' said Villepigue. ``I won a championship ring this year, and I have a number of good schools interested in me. I'm happy.'' By enrolling at a junior college rather than transferring directly to another Div. I program from Gonzaga, Villepigue avoided sitting out an entire season. Although next year will be his fourth in college, he will technically be a junior. He was a redshirt his first year at Gonzaga, so he still has two years of eligibility remaining. ``That was the main reason I decided to go to junior college,'' Villepigue said. ``I wanted to play this season rather then waste it not doing anything.''
