CHATTER: TEAMS FACE AN UNCERTAIN FUTURE BECAUSE OF BUS STRIKE.

With the Laidlaw bus drivers' strike dragging into day four Friday, the Los Angeles Unified School District The Los Angeles Unified School District (the "LAUSD") is the largest (in terms of number of students) public school system in California and the second-largest in the United States. Only the New York City Department of Education has a larger student population.  doesn't expect a decision on whether it can resume its sports schedule until Monday morning.

The district has postponed most of its sports events since Tuesday and might cancel games if the strike extends into next week. The games that were lost between Tuesday and Friday are expected to be rescheduled at the end of the month, but there would be no more open make-up dates if the dispute goes any longer.

``We are looking at alternative transportation methods, but we haven't come up with anything concrete yet,'' City Section athletic director Athletic director (commonly, "athletics director") is a position at many American colleges and universities, as well as in larger high schools and middle schools, which oversees the work of the coaches and related staff involved in intercollegiate or interscholastic athletic  Barbara Fiege said. ``And if we can't come up with a plan so we can resume playing, we'll have to start canceling games beginning next week.''
