CHATTER: TAFT QUARTERBACK COMMITS TO FLORIDA.

Taft High of Woodland Hills quarterback Josh Portis is following Urban Meyer Urban F. Meyer (born July 10, 1964 in Ashtabula, Ohio) is currently the head football coach at the University of Florida. He is best known for leading Florida to the 2006 Southeastern Conference Championship and later the BCS National Championship.  to Florida. Portis has orally committed to play football for the Gators next year.

Portis initially committed to play for Meyer at Utah but changed his mind when Meyer, who guided the Utes to an 11-0 record and Fiesta Bowl The Fiesta Bowl, now sponsored by Tostitos tortilla chips (a Frito-Lay product), is a United States college football game played annually since 1971. Originally, the game was hosted in Tempe, Arizona at Sun Devil Stadium where it remained until 2006.  berth this season, was hired as Florida coach two weeks ago.

Moorpark's success stems from the solid goalkeeping of Crystal Pollard! and a balanced offense with scorers Jessica Bridges, Jennifer LeBeau, Courtney Mestowa and Casey Tobias.

Despite the Musketeers' improvement, Moorpark will have a difficult time qualifying for the postseason. It is in the same league as Div. IV powers Agoura (8-1, 2-0), Royal of Simi Valley (8-0, 3-0) and Thousand Oaks (8-1, 2-1), all ranked in the top 10. ...

After sitting out Wednesday's game with a 102-degree fever, Poppen returned to record 12 points and 10 rebounds as Thousand Oaks defeated Arroyo Grande 73-46 Thursday, then scored 30 points with 12 rebounds in a 92-65 victory over Santa Maria in the semifinals.

The midfielder was instrumental in leading the Bulldogs (6-1-1) to the final of the South Torrance girls' soccer tournament, scoring a goal in a 4-1 quarterfinal victory over North Torrance, then tallying the lone goal from a Diana Mendez assist in the 34th minute of Saturday's semifinal triumph over West Torrance. Perkins and teammate Sahar Haghdan received all-tournament honors for Highland.

During 25 years of Indians girls' soccer, there have been several freshmen who have made impacts at the varsity level, most notably Erin Misaki and Ali Pavoni. Although Hart's latest ninth-grade talent has far to go to reach their levels of success, she's off to a good start, recording five goals and five assists in the team's first five games. Coutin will showcase her skills against some of the best teams in the region at Hart's tournament Dec. 27-29.
