Now that the girls' volleyball playoffs are finished for teams in the region, maybe Louisville of Woodland Hills outside hitter Katie O'Connell can finally rest her sore ankles.

O'Connell and Louisville lost to Nipomo in a heartbreaking five-game Southern Section Div. III-A semifinal Tuesday, and afterward O'Connell admitted she played most of the season with nagging ankle sprains.

``It's something I dealt with practically every match this year,'' said O'Connell, who again tweaked an ankle against Nipomo. ``But I'll never use that as an excuse. If I'm on the court, I expect to play well.''

O'Connell had 28 kills against Nipomo and set a career high with 37 in the quarterfinals against Orange Lutheran. After she was injured in Game 3 against Nipomo, it was obvious she was not 100 percent, but she continued to be a threat. ...
