The San Gabriel Valley The San Gabriel Valley is one of the principal valleys of southern California. Thousand Oaks' JT Sundling was one for two in his semifinal matches Friday at the USTA Boys' 16-Under National Championships at Michigan's Kalamazoo College.

Sundling and partner Daniel Nguyen of Oxnard defeated Sekou Coker Bangoura and Nelson Vick 7-6 (4), 6-2 to reach the doubles final, where they will face top seeds Ryan Noble and Bo Seal. Seal also advanced to the singles championship with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Sundling.

Barte's bid halted in Berkeley

Former Harvard-Westlake of Studio City tennis standout Hilary Barte, the No. 4 seed, suffered a 6-3, 6-1 quarterfinal setback Friday to No. 5 Melanie Oudin of Marietta, Ga., at the USTA Girls' 18-under National Championships at Berkeley Tennis Club. Barte, who finished third in last year's tournament as an unseeded entry, defaulted her consolation match against Allie Will later in the day.

Locals conclude Junior Nationals

Sun also contributed to Swim Pasadena's seventh-place performance in the 400 medley relay (4:22.44), along with C.V. junior Yumi So, Flintridge Sacred Heart of La Canada Flintridge sophomore Andrea Kropp and Mayfield of Pasadena graduate Ann Tsuchiya.
