CHATTER: SAN PEDRO EXPECTED TO BE TOP SEED.

Byline: Lee Barnathan Staff Writer

How does a playoff seeding committee choose among the West Valley League girls' soccer tri-champions? It names somebody else as the top seed for the City Section playoffs.

It's likely Chatsworth High and El Camino Real El Camino Real (Spanish for The Royal Road or The King's Highway) was the name of a series of pre-automobile highways linking the various New World colonies of Spain:
  • There is an El Camino Real in California; see: El Camino Real (California).
of Woodland Hills will take a back seat to San Pedro when the seeding committee meets tonight at Hamilton High.

Those two area schools have won 11 of 13 City titles, including the past six. But because they finished in a three-way tie with Granada Hills, the committee will name San Pedro No. 1 because of its tradition (multiple Marine League titles, several No. 2 seedings and one City runner-up finish Noun 1. runner-up finish - a finish in second place (as in a race)

What's next? In talking with other City coaches, here is the most likely scenario:

Perhaps it doesn't matter because San Pedro, ECR ECR Efficient Consumer Response

ECR El Camino Real (Kings Highway; California)
ECR Electronic Cash Register

, Granada Hills and Chatsworth are the four best teams in the City and they'll beat anyone else they play and occupy the four semifinal berths. But because the committee needs to slot schools, defending City champion El Camino Real will be second, by virtue of it winning a coin flip. Granada Hills will be seeded third and Palisades Palisades, cliffs along the west bank of the Hudson River, NE N.J. and SE N.Y., extending from N of Jersey City, N.J., to the vicinity of Piermont, N.Y., with a general altitude of from 350 ft to 550 ft (107–168 m).  fourth.

Palisades?

The Dolphins, although losing to Granada Hills in the El Segundo El Segundo (ĕl sēgŭn`dō), industrial city (1990 pop. 15,223), Los Angeles co., S Calif., on Santa Monica Bay; inc. 1917. Its products include navigation and computer systems, aircraft parts, office machines, telephone apparatus, and  tournament, won the Western League with a perfect record. Chatsworth not only lost twice, it went 12-9 overall - too weak a record to be seeded fourth. The committee will overlook Palisades' weaker schedule. Chatsworth will be fifth and pound Palisades in the second round.

Expect Kennedy of Granada Hills to be sixth. The Cougars were perfect in the Valley Mission League but lost to Granada Hills and El Camino Real. After that, it's really up in the air, but it wouldn't be bad if the committee puts Canoga Park seventh. The Hunters won their first Sunset Six League title over usual champion Grant of Van Nuys.

``It's very disappointing,'' Crespi coach Rob Kodama said. ``I assume the rest of the teams are happier than heck that we're not in. It's kind of an unfortunate situation. It's a special team and playing in the Mission League is never easy.'' ...

Loring started the season at shooting guard as the Centurions had a lineup that included four players at 5-foot-11 or taller, but coach Eric Olsson moved her to small forward during the season and the Centurions ``took off,'' Olsson said.

The Centurions tied for the league title for the second consecutive season and earned the No. 8 seed in the Division II-AA playoffs. Saugus plays host to Simi Valley in a first-round game Thursday.

As Morris, Rasp is a capable scorer from different spots on the floor. He's a solid defender and the second-best rebounder on the team. The key for Rasp is to make sure Morris doesn't have a big night offensively. When he scores 12 to 17 points per game, the Indians are difficult to beat.
