Moss, the Milwaukee Brewers' 29th-round draft pick this spring, was the only Brewer to make the league's top-20 list even though he didn't sign until midseason.

``I was surprised anyone knew I was here,'' Moss said.

ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

KEVIN CRANE

Senior

Valencia

Crane, in his first year with the Vikings after transferring from Crespi of Encino, set the tone in Valencia's 63-28 victory over Newbury Park on Friday by returning the opening kickoff 91 yards for a touchdown. It was the start of a special night for the fleet-footed Crane, who took the next kickoff he touched 91 yards for another TD to put the Vikings ahead 21-6. But Crane wasn't through. He added a 31-yard touchdown reception and a 20-yard interception return for yet another score to help Valencia crush the Panthers.

what to say,'' Crane said afterward. ``My performance speaks for itself. I just came out determined. I felt pretty good.''

HALEY FITHIAN

Sophomore

La Reina

Fithian is the latest in a series of versatile La Reina of Thousand Oaks volleyball players with the ability to hit and set with equal proficiency, following Ashlie Hain and current teammate Katie Kellogg.

Fithian, a starter in the Regents' two-setter offense, had seven kills, 14 digs, 10 assists, two aces and 14 service points in a victory over Thousand Oaks. She also did not miss a pass.

On Friday, Fithian totaled 14 kills, 19 digs, 17 assists and four aces as La Reina beat Westlake, ranked No. 1 by the Daily News.

UP AND COMER

SAMANTHA NAUMANN

La Reina

Naumann, a junior outside hitter on the junior varsity girls' volleyball team, led the Regents of Thousand Oaks to a victory over Westlake on Friday. Naumann would have pushed for a spot on varsity this season, but she is recovering from ACL See access control list.

HEAD 2 HEAD

ERIK VOSE

Westlake Quarterback

SEAN n. 1. A seine. See Seine.  NORTON

Hart Quarterback

Norton has stepped right in at Hart of Newhall, a factory when it comes to developing college quarterbacks, and as a result the Indians (1-0-1) are as dangerous as ever. They tied highly regarded Los Alamitos 21-21 in the first week and then routed St. Bonaventure of Ventura 31-6 on Friday. Norton, a junior, has thrown for 598 yards and five touchdowns on 31-of-58 passing. He's also shown tremendous poise and toughness, continually absorbing big hits only to pop back up and return to the huddle as if nothing happened. He'll face a Westlake defense that's better overall than St. Bonaventure's but not quite as good as Los Alamitos', and with the way the Indians like to throw the ball, he'll get plenty of chances to put up big numbers. Vose, who transferred to Westlake from Chaminade of West Hills, has completed 24 of 50 passes for 257 yards but has struggled a bit with interceptions through two games thus far, throwing four picks compared to two touchdowns. He'll have to be more proficient against the high-scoring Indians, and must avoid costly turnovers for the Warriors (1-1) to have a chance to win.

Friday, at Westlake High, 7 p.m.
