CHATTER: OAKS CHRISTIAN'S MAIO STEPS DOWN.

Mike Maio is leaving Oaks Christian of Westlake Village's baseball team after guiding the Lions deep into the postseason in both of his two seasons at the helm.

Maio, a long-time area coach who led El Camino Real El Camino Real (Spanish for The Royal Road or The King's Highway) was the name of a series of pre-automobile highways linking the various New World colonies of Spain:

 were two of the six California football players selected to Street & Smith's 25th annual preseason high school All-America team.

 shortstop Brandon Crawford and Pepperdine pitcher Brett Hunter were named to Baseball America's Freshman All-America team.

Crawford hit .318 with sixhome runs and 30 RBIs. Hunter, a Moorpark High graduate, was 5-3 with 11 saves and a 2.83 ERA.

Kennedy of Granada Hills pitcher/outfielder Fabian Williamson, Chatsworth shortstop Mike Moustakas Mike Moustakas (born September 11, 1988 at Chatsworth, California) is a Shortstop[1] who was drafted by the Kansas City Royals of Major League Baseball 2nd overall in the 2007 Major League Baseball Draft. , Quartz Hill outfielder Calvin Culver, Agoura pitcher/catcher Robert Stock and Newbury Park pitcher/first baseman Andrew Lambo were named first-team All-State selections by Cal-Hi Sports. Overall, 15 locals were honored.

Howard Davis will take over this week as the new athletic director at Moorpark College. He is replacing John Keever, who retired after 37years at the school.

Encino resident Robert Glushon will get a chance to take batting practice at Dodger Stadium with Manny Mota on Thursday as one of the winners in the Dodgers' annual Think Blue Week contest. Glushon, the baseball coach at Harvard-Westlake Middle School, won based on a letter submitted by his son Jason, a former Harvard-Westlake High ace, who wrote of his father's passion for baseball and the Dodgers.
