Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region,  club teams, has more than 200 players so far from Ventura to Long Beach.

``We've been thinking about it for two years,'' said Corso, who is the technical director and coach of the Agoura-based program. ``The Harvard Water Polo Foundation teams were very, very good, but we didn't have that many kids.''

The new club, which also has a senior program for players beyond high school, has training affiliates at Agoura, Harvard-Westlake, Loyola Marymount and Palos Verdes Palos Verdes is often used to refer to a group of coastal cities on the Palos Verdes Peninsula in the Los Angeles/South Bay area of California. This affluent bedroom community is known for its dramatic views, good schools [1] extensive horse trails [2]  from which players are pulled for various tournaments.

``The club roster is like a who's-who list in the Valley, Ventura and the Westside,'' Corso said. ``But it's not just an all-star team. Some clubs do that, but we're interested in the development of players and providing a place for them to become better players. ... It will make the high school programs stronger. It'll help the water polo in this area come up and flourish.''

Boys' teams already have started practicing. Girls' workouts are scheduled to begin after the high school season.

The club's first major competition is the Alberta Open in mid March. ...
