In Saturday night's San Gabriel Valley The San Gabriel Valley is one of the principal valleys of southern California. It lies to the east of the city of Los Angeles, to the north of the Puente Hills, to the south of the San Gabriel Mountains, and to the west of the Inland Empire.  All-Star game An all-star game is an exhibition game played by the best players in their sports league. The players are often chosen by a popular vote of fans of the sport and the game often occurs at the halfway point of the regular season, although this is not the case for some all-star games  at APU's Felix Events Center The Felix Events Center is a 3,500-seat multi-purpose arena in Azusa, California, USA. It hosts locals sporting events and concerts. It is home of the the Azusa Pacific University Cougars basketball teams and was the former home of the SoCal Legends when they played in the American , Anderson had another chance to be the hero, and this time he delivered.

The 6-foot-8, Lehigh-bound forward hit a 25-footer as time expired to lift the West All-Stars to an 83-82 victory over the East. Anderson, one of five area players on the West roster, was selected his team's most valuable player after an 18-point, 11-rebound performance in just over 20 minutes.

Anderson said West coach Tim Tucker ``wanted me to screen down and get the ball in the block, but that's not my game. I saw that (La Canada teammate Craig Ballard) was double-teamed and I was just fortunate enough to hit the shot.''

Anderson and Ballard, who has committed to the University of San Diego, were joined on the West team by St. Francis of La Canada Flintridge's Chris Johnson and Kevin Peterson, along with Renaissance Academy of La Canada Flintridge's Leif Williams. Williams was the only other area player to score, finishing with two points. Ballard had four points, five rebounds and three assists in 17 minutes.

ending. It's a great way to go out,'' Anderson said. ``After losing to Colony here and losing to Santa Margarita (in the Southern Section Div. III-AA semifinals), it was kind of disappointing. But going out like this, it's all good now.'' ...

The most interesting news to come out of the Southern California Nike football camp Sunday at USC An abbreviation for U.S. Code.  was that the area's top running back/cornerback is exploring another position.

In a surprising move, Sylmar's C.J. Gable worked with the receivers at the camp, which is one of the best in getting junior prep football prospects noticed.

``I'm versatile, so I can play running back or receiver and I think I might end up playing receiver in college,'' Gable said. ``I'm just expanding my options. I hope teams will look at me as an athlete.''

Gable ran the 40-yard dash in 4.6 seconds. Some of the more impressive performers from the area included Palmdale defensive back Tyreace House, who tied for fifth in the camp in the 40-yard dash with a time of 4.47 seconds, and Royal of Simi Valley quarterback Kevin Harrington, who was fourth in the 20-yard shuffle with a time of 4.1 seconds.

Junior football players can sign up for the first Coastal/Valley High School Football Combine, which is from 4 to 7 p.m. April 28 at Moorpark College. Players from Ventura County and the San Fernando, Santa Clarita and Antelope valleys are welcome.
