Former Kennedy High students are in for quite a surprise when they visit the Granada Granada, city, Nicaragua

 be shocked,'' Kennedy boys' basketball coach Kevin Kanemura said.

That's because Kennedy's athletic facilities are quite a bit different now that construction is completed on an ambitious project to repair damages caused by the 1994 Northridge earthquake The Northridge earthquake occurred on January 17, 1994 at 4:31 AM Pacific Standard Time in the city of Los Angeles, California. The earthquake had a "strong" moment magnitude of 6. .

The main gym is new - it's actually two gyms - as are the tennis courts and softball softball, variant of baseball played with a larger ball on a smaller field. Invented (1888) in Chicago as an indoor game, it was at various times called indoor baseball, mush ball, playground ball, kitten ball, and, because it was also played by women, ladies'  facility.

The gym has been in use for a little more than a year, but Kennedy decided it was time to invite alumni to check things out Tuesday night during a function honoring this year's basketball team. The school hopes the alumni event opens a yearlong year·long
