Eshaya Murphy Eshaya "Shay" Murphy (born April 15 1985, in Canoga Park, California) is an American professional basketball player in the WNBA, currently playing for the Minnesota Lynx.

Murphy attended college at USC and graduated in 2007.
knew the jump from 400-student Montclair Prep of Panorama City to USC An abbreviation for U.S. Code.  would be big and figured it would take awhile for her to enter the spotlight.

But there was Murphy on Tuesday, sitting alongside preseason Wooden Award and Wade Trophy Wade Trophy is an award presented annually to the best women'scollege basketball player in NCAA Division I. The Wade Trophy, named after the late, three-time national champion, Delta State University coach Lily Margaret Wade.  Award candidate Ebony Hoffman and USC women's basketball coach Chris Gobrecht, answering questions from local and national media before she even had played her first game for the Trojans.

Much is expected of Murphy, the Daily News Player of the Year in 2002 and two-time Southern Section Div. V Player of the Year.

The Trojans have seven returners and seven freshmen, so the newcomers will be expected to contribute right away. And because All-Pacific-10 Conference guard Aisha Hollans was dismissed from the team shortly after the end of last season, Murphy should see a lot of action at shooting guard and small forward.

However, Murphy said she felt no pressure and has adjusted well to campus life. She's taking 16 units this fall and already is lining up internships in public relations public relations, activities and policies used to create public interest in a person, idea, product, institution, or business establishment. By its nature, public relations is devoted to serving particular interests by presenting them to the public in the most  for the summer.

``It's helpful knowing you don't have to be the one and having great seniors to look up to, show you the ropes so you can follow in their footsteps,'' she said. ``My freshman year I want to come out every day, work hard and just learn from Ebony, ``Ro'' (Rometra Craig), Jess (Jessica Cheeks) and Tiffany (Hicks). I want to learn new things ever single day I walk into the gym.''

At Montclair Prep, Murphy was always ``the one.'' She led the Southern Section in scoring (32.3 points per game) and rebounding (22 rpg) in 2002 and was seventh in scoring (23.5 ppg) and 11th in rebounding (14.6 rpg) in 2003.
