Former Camarillo High standout and Oregon State All-American Cambria Miranda has been selected to the U.S. softball roster for the World University Games, scheduled for July15-23 in Tainan City "Tainan" redirects here; for the county of the same name see Tainan County.

Miranda, a first-team All-America selection by Easton-Bell Sports and Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association, was one of 17 players picked from a group of 30 that participated in the selection camp June 8-11 in Chula Vista Chula Vista (ch`lə), city (1990 pop. 135,163), San Diego co., S Calif., on San Diego Bay; inc. 1911. .

Miranda set Oregon State's single-season record during her sophomore campaign with 52 runs scored and tied the mark with 16 home runs.

She'll be joined on the team by All-American pitcher Brianne McGowan, who went 29-9 for the Beavers this past season.

Elizabeth Olear ran a personal-best 11.33 seconds in the 100 meters Thursday for a fifth-place finish at the USA Junior Track and Field Championships in Indianapolis to guarantee her a spot in at least the relay pool on the U.S. team that will travel to Beijing, China, in August.

Olear, who recently graduated from Louisville High of Woodland Hills and begins at USC An abbreviation for U.S. Code.  in the fall, runs the 200 meters today. The top two finishers in each event advance to the World Championships. In the 100 meters, the top six placers make the 400-relay team.

Oaks Christian of Westlake Village defensive back Anthony Gildon became the latest player on this year's Lions football team to commit to a Div A DIV Associate of Divinity . I program, selecting Oregon.

As many as 10 players from Oaks Christian's senior class could wind up at Div. I schools, with linebacker Casey Matthews possibly the next one to announce. Oaks Christian coach Bill Redell believes Matthews' decision could come down to Oregon or Cal.
