CHATTER: MCELROY COMPLETES PERFECT YEAR IN TEXAS.

Byline: Erik Boal Special to the Daily News

Greg McElroy, a former Northridge resident who attended Pomelo pomelo (pŏm`əlō'): see grapefruit.  Elementary School, played Little League baseball in West Hills and youth football with the Chatsworth Chiefs, quarterbacked Carroll High of Southlake, Texas, to the Class 5A state title with a 16-0 record.

Carroll, the top-ranked team in the country according to Student Sports and MaxPreps.com and No. 2 in USA Today's Super 25, defeated previously unbeaten Katy 34-20 in Saturday's final at Texas Stadium in Arlington. The win was Carroll's 32nd in a row; the school is 63-1 the past four years.

McElroy, ranked as the No. 11 pro-style quarterback in the country by Rivals.com, has passed for more than 50 touchdowns and 4,300 yards. He has committed to Texas Tech.

--Desiree Stone's 6-4, 6-0 victory over Palisades Palisades, cliffs along the west bank of the Hudson River, NE N.J. and SE N.Y., extending from N of Jersey City, N.J., to the vicinity of Piermont, N.Y., with a general altitude of from 350 ft to 550 ft (107–168 m).  of Pacific Palisades' Katy Nikolova in last week's City Section girls' tennis singles final was watched by a record crowd at Balboa Sports Complex in Encino, according to assistant commissioner Cheryl Barkovich.

One person Stone was glad to see in attendance was former North Hollywood teammate and 2003 City quarterfinalist Marsha Clever, who was on her holiday break from UC San Diego. Stone, who has committed to UC Davis, considered Clever her role model during her first two years on varsity, and they were instrumental in leading the Huskies to the City semifinals in 2003.

Clever made sure to wait around until the awards presentation, when Stone was also presented with the City's sportsmanship award.

``She lived up to that responsibility and she emerged as a leader on and off the court,'' Clever said. ``She's matured a lot as a player and a person. It's really amazing that she's secured a full Div. I scholarship. She's pushed herself in academics as well, and she's won two (City) championships. That says a lot.''
