CHATTER: MANEUVERING IN THE SUNSET SIX.Byline: Lee Barnathan Staff Writer The Sunset Six League seems never to lack intrigue in baseball. Lawrence thinks Poly's Eddie Baeza is the only real pitcher in the league, and Lewis the only real player North Hollywood has. In fact, in 12 league games, Lewis was intentionally walked five times, walked five other times and hit by pitches nine times. ``The kid's a quality ballplayer,'' Lawrence said, ``but they'd better get some hitters around him.'' Because the league insists on hitting Lewis, Vranau says he will move Lewis to leadoff, where he stole 20 of 22 bases in the summer. ... HEAD TO HEAD Matchup of the week: HUDSON GOSSARD Crescenta Valley Quarterback JOE FIELDS Littlerock Quarterback It's been a long time since Littlerock needed important contributions from its quarterback. Over the years, the Lobos have been a running team and boasted talented tailbacks. But this is a different season at Littlerock, and with no dominating tailback, Fields has had to deliver. During the regular season he completed 62 of 133 passes for 906 yards and 12 touchdowns. The Lobos need him to play well because Crescenta Valley is a high-scoring, passing team and forces opponents to keep up. Gossard is the main reason for that, having passed for an area-high 2,937 yards and 27 touchdowns while guiding Crescenta Valley of La Crescenta to a 10-0 record and the fourth seed in the Southern Section Division III playoffs. Gossard turns broken plays into touchdowns or long gains. He has plenty of help around him, but he makes the offense go. As a result, Littlerock needs Fields to be effective, and if the game turns into a shoot-out, they need him to make plays. Friday, 7:30 p.m., at Glendale High.
