CHATTER: LOCAL TEAMS CAPTURE ACADEMIC AWARDS.


The Louisville of Woodland Hills girls' golf team is turning its performance in the classroom and efforts on the links into a rather lucrative endeavor each spring.

The Royals were again recognized by Southern Section officials and the Women's Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region,  Golf Association for boasting the top combined grade-point average of all schools with enrollment of 1,500 students or less at 3.762.

The honor also resulted in Louisville receiving a $500 grant from the WSCGA WSCGA Wisconsin State Cranberry Growers Association , along with the opportunity to be recognized April 29 during a ceremony at Angel Stadium preceding the Angels game against Oakland.

Louisville was one of six local teams -- among 1,427 applicants -- to capture Southern Section academic titles.

La Canada was the lone area school to boast two champions, as boys' soccer (3.431) and football (3.190) were awarded banners in the 1,501 and above enrollment category.

Hart of Newhall (3.583) was the recipient in the large-school baseball category, as was Quartz Hill in wrestling (3.437). Calabasas joined Louisville as the only other girls' team to be honored, winning the swimming title with a 3.727.

Battle of the Valley games set for CSUN CSUN California State University Northridge  

The 12th annual Battle of the Valley all-star basketball games, sponsored by Valley Sports Foundation, will be played Sunday at the Matadome at Cal State Northridge.

The contests, featuring the top seniors in the area, boast some of the most impressive talent in recent memory, especially in the boys' contest, scheduled for 5 p.m.

Simi Valley's Lorne Jackson, Crespi of Encino's Joseph Fauria and Taft of Woodland Hills' Bryce Smith highlight the West roster and Campbell Hall Campbell Hall can refer to:
  • a residence hall at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech)
  • Campbell Hall School in North Hollywood, California
 of North Hollywood's Dallas Rutherford, Knight of Palmdale's Paul George, Renaissance Academy of La Canada Flintridge's Justin Cook and Harvard-Westlake of North Hollywood's Renaldo Woolridge headline the East squad.

Simi Valley's Christian Aurand will coach the West team and Reseda's Keith Higgins will guide the East.

In the girls' contest, Oaks Christian of Westlake Village's Chelsea Carlisle will team with four players from City Section runner-up Chatsworth on the West roster, led by Monroe of North Hills' Quincy Brooks. Hart of Newhall's Megan Ford and Royal of Simi Valley's Erika Ward lead a deep East team, coached by Bell-Jeff of Burbank's Bryan Camacho.

Both games are scheduled to air four times each between April 14-19 on L.A. Channel 36.
