CHATTER: HURRICANE KATRINA DELIVERS FOOTBALL PLAYERS TO SEVERAL AREA PROGRAMS.

Oaks Christian of Westlake Village has welcomed Joshua and Jason Miguel, cousins of Lions defensive back Marshall Jones. The Miguels attended St. Augustine High in New Orleans and were to begin their season Aug. 27, two days before Katrina arrived.

Joshua Miguel, a 17-year-old receiver/defensive back, is a senior who had been expected to start for St. Augustine. Jason Miguel is a 14-year-old sophomore.

Both are talented athletes, but Oaks Christian coach Bill Redell Bill Redell (born April 17, 1941 in Red Bluff, California) is an American football coach and member of the College Football Hall of Fame. Redell serves as head coach at Oaks Christian High School in Westlake Village, California, since 2000, and has formed them into one of  said it will be difficult for them to contend for starting positions. His team has strong depth at their positions.

Jared Miles, a Katrina refugee who played one game for Camarillo, returned Tuesday to the Gulf Coast and will live with Willie Brooks, his football coach at Helen Cox High in Harvey, La.

Miles, a junior, started at left tackle for Camarillo in last week's 19-8 victory over Buena. He was an honorary captain for the game and was presented the game ball from teammates afterward.

--Former College of the Canyons College of the Canyons is one of the fastest-growing community colleges in the state. Smith, a JC All-American receiver at Canyons, has 35 receptions for 505 yards and four touchdowns, leads the team in punt returns (11.5 average, with a school-record 88-yard return for a TD) and has rushed for 90 yards.
