There have been many times in the past four seasons that Ebony Hoffman Ebony Vernice Hoffman (born August 27, 1982 in Los Angeles, California) is a professional basketball player for the Indiana Fever in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA).

She was selected as the ninth overall pick in the 2004 WNBA Draft.

She even played it safe on draft day last Saturday and had only a small group of close family members get together and watch the selection show with her.

``That'd be the worst thing to have a big old party and not hear your name called,'' said the former USC An abbreviation for U.S. Code.  standout.

Hoffman, a three-time first-team all-Pacific-10 Conference player, was selected as the ninth overall pick by the Indiana Fever.

``It was a surreal experience,'' Hoffman said. ``They were really hush- hush about picking me. When I was watching on TV, I don't even think the commentators knew what to say because everybody was so surprised I was taken so early.''

Hoffman completed her career at USC as the first player since Cheryl Miller to tally more than 1,500 points, 1,000 rebounds and 245 steals.

Pepperdine senior Nicole Funn was not selected in the draft but was quickly signed by the Los Angeles Sparks The Los Angeles Sparks are a Women's National Basketball Association team based in Los Angeles, California. Founded in 1997, they are one of the 8 original WNBA teams and were one of the teams that participated in the league's inaugural game.  as a free agent.
