CHATTER: HART EYES MOORE TOURNEY WINS.

Matt Moore, Hart High of Newhall's latest in a long line of excellent quarterbacks, looks to carry the Indians to their fourth consecutive 7-on-7 tournament championship of the summer today and Saturday at the Monarch Passing Tournament at L.A. Valley College.

Moore, stepping in for 2000 Daily News Player of the Year Kyle Matter (now at Stanford), has led Hart to tournament titles at Hart, La Verne and Santa Barbara.

At the 48-team L.A. Valley College competition, Hart must contend with long-time powers Loyola of Los Angeles, Westlake, St. Francis of La Canada, Newbury Park, Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks, Granada Hills, Sylmar and others.

``Matt Moore's arm is really strong. He's doing fantastic,'' Hart coach Mike Herrington said. ``He reminds me of Kyle Boller. Both have strong arms and are great athletes.'' ...

De'Andre Scott, the ultratalented but controversial running back who transferred from Alemany of Mission Hills to Del Rey League rival St. Paul of Santa Fe Springs in the middle of last season, probably will end up at Mt. San Antonio College because of academic deficiencies, St. Paul coach Marijon Ancich said.

``I can't say for sure, but I know Mt. SAC is really interested in promoting him,'' Ancich said. ``De'Andre had a hard time (academically) at St. Paul, but he got through.''

Scott is scheduled to participate in the first L.A. County-Orange County All-Star Game on July 28 at Cerritos College in Norwalk. The game is at 6 p.m. ...

The San Fernando Valley-based So Cal Lightning girls' softball team has added reason to be excited about the 65-team F.A.S.T. National Championships in Orlando, Fla., starting July 22.

The father of one of the players is a Hilton executive - ``He arranged an amazing deal for us,'' coach Michael Watrobski said - so the team gets to stay at the Hilton Resort at Walt Disney World.

``I'm not sure if most teams get to stay at the Hilton. I'm really looking forward to it,'' said catcher Lauren Grossman, who also plays for Campbell Hall in North Hollywood. ``I've never been to Orlando. We're going to go to Disneyland and to Daytona Beach.''

The So Cal Lightning, featuring players from El Camino Real of Woodland Hills, Louisville of Woodland Hills, La Reina of Thousand Oaks, San Fernando and Van Nuys, is a serious contender to win the title. The 16-under squad has finished among the top three in four tournaments this summer.

``This is going to be our last 16-and-under tournament,'' Grossman said. ``After this, we're going to move up to 18.'' ...

Whitney Fike, an All-Marmonte League boys' soccer player from Simi Valley High, will participate in a three-week tour with the American Global Soccer School team, starting July 30. They'll compete against pro squads in Belgium and The Netherlands. ...

Quarterback Ben Olson of Thousand Oaks is listed as the No. 2 overall high school football prospect in the nation by ESPN.

He's also among the top-100 high school recruits, according to rivals.com. St. Bonaventure of Ventura running back Lorenzo Booker and offensive lineman James Bonelli also are on that list.
