CHATTER: HART'S HOT-SHOOTING LILLEY IS SECOND-TEAM ALL-STATE SELECTION.

Hart High of Newhall guard Taylor Lilley was selected to Cal-Hi Sports' girls' basketball all-state second team.

Lilley, who signed with Oregon, was the Southern Section Div. I-A Player of the Year after leading the Indians to their first section championship since 1990. She averaged 18.8 points per game and made 1193-pointers, the fourth-highest season total in Southern Section history and 12th-best in the state. Her 275 career 3-pointers are No. 2 in the Southern Section and No. 10 in the state.

Newbury Park guard Kavita Goss, headed to Loyola Marymount, was selected to the third team. Goss averaged 18.6 points and 4.3 assists to lead the Panthers to the Marmonte League title and the Div. II-A semifinals.

Sherman Oaks resident Abi Olajuwon, a McDonald's All-American who played at Marlborough of Los Angeles, also was a third-team selection. The Oklahoma-bound center - daughter of former NBA great Hakeem Olajuwon - averaged 15.9 points and 15.4 rebounds.

--Harvard-Westlake of Studio City girls' soccer star Ali Riley scored a goal as New Zealand's under-20 women's team thumped Tonga 6-0 to win the Oceania qualifying tournament and advance to this summer's FIFA U-20 World Championship in Russia.

--Six area teams won Southern Section academic team championships, all in the 1,500-under enrollment division. Flintridge Prep of La Canada Flintridge was the only area school to win two titles, receiving banners in girls' soccer (3.600 cumulative GPA) and girls' water polo (3.675).

Other girls champions are Louisville of Woodland Hills in golf (3.773) and Harvard-Westlake of Studio City in track and field (3.615).

Boys' teams to capture titles were Malibu in golf (3.667) and Viewpoint of Calabasas in swimming (3.589).

--La Canada High's Jordan Thompson signed to play water polo with NCAA champion USC. The 6-foot-5 two-meter player, a U.S. youth national-teamer and All-Southern Section Div. III selection, joins a stellar recruiting class that features U.S. national-teamer J.W. Krumpholz (Foothill of Santa Ana) and four youth national-teamers. Also in the class is Harvard-Westlake's Justin Rappel, an All-Southern Section Div. I second-team selection.

Junior, Chatsworth

The Chancellors' shortstop hit five home runs in as many games, including three in two games Wednesday, to lead Chatsworth to its third consecutive title at the Durango of Las Vegas baseball tournament. Moustakas was the primary power behind the Chancellors' nine home runs in the tournament, giving him seven this season and 21 in his prep career, three shy of Jason Dominguez's school record.

SHANNON MURAKAMI

Junior, Saugus

Already the area's fastest runner at 1,600 and 3,200 meters, Murakami clocked 2 minutes, 10.03 seconds Saturday in the 800 - the best time in the state this year - to finish second to Mexican standout Cristina Guevara Esteban (2:09.18) at the Mt. SAC Relays. Murakami also led Saugus to second place in the distance-medley relay (12:26.7).

ASHLEY CECIL

Highland of Palmdale

The junior swimmer, who did not compete last year, won all eight races she entered last week, including the 100-yard backstroke and 200 freestyle at Saturday's Knight of Palmdale Invitational. She also contributed to the Bulldogs' victories in the 200 medley and 200 free relays.
