CHATTER: GRANADA HILLS TO HONOR LATE BASKETBALL COACH PATTERSON.

Robert Chandler (Bob) Patterson (born May 16, 1959 in Jacksonville, Florida) is a former middle-relief pitcher in Major League Baseball who played from 1985 through 1998 for the San Diego Padres (1985),
 at its alumni game Nov. 21. Patterson died last November in his sleep after a long battle with heart problems. He was 46.

``Honoring him each year will become something of a tradition for us,'' said Highlanders coach Sean Collyer, who was named interim coach after Patterson's death last year, then got the job full time at the end of the season. ``He was such a great guy, and he meant so much to so many people. This is something that is very important to us.''

For Collyer and his team, next month's tribute is a chance to pay their respects again to Patterson and try to move forward.

``We've changed a few things from last year, especially defensively,'' Collyer said. ``We're smaller than last year, but we're much quicker, and we have a lot of potential. We're looking forward to getting started.'' ...

 Jackie Kecskes might not be one of the boys, but she's become a valuable asset on the Highlanders' football team.

In Friday night's 27-0 victory over rival Kennedy of Granada Hills, Kecskes made both field-goal attempts - from 28 and 34 yards, respectively - and was 3 for 3 on PATs.

``She has a lot of pressure on her, but she's done really well,'' Granada Hills quarterback Brandon Charls said. ``People give her a lot of (grief) because she's a girl, but she's done really well, she's earned our respect.'' ...
