CHATTER: GOOD GUY GETS HIS DREAM JOB.

His dream finally having come true, Oliver Germond packed his bags and moved to Fresno.

OK, moving to Fresno wasn't part of the dream come true. But the reason Germond, a former Hart High of Newhall girls' soccer coach, moved was a new job teaching and coaching at a community college.

Germond coached six seasons at Hart and won six Foothill League titles, reached the Southern Section final twice and won it once. He had long wanted a teaching/coaching job, but when the Hart school district didn't come through, Germond finished his master's degree master's degree

 and looked elsewhere. By the time Hart offered him a job in October, two years after he had stopped coaching there, it was too late.

``After six years, it was time to move on,'' he said.

While looking, Germond assisted at College of the Canyons College of the Canyons is one of the fastest-growing community colleges in the state. According to the National Junior College Research Association, College of the Canyons consistently ranks in the top 50 community colleges in the nation.  and married former Canyon player Cassie Hencey, but he longed for his own program. When Fresno offered him a job, ``I was speechless. The lady said, `Hello?' She thought I wasn't there.''

Several local residents will participate in the Monterey Historic Automobile Races The Rolex Monterey Historic Automobile Races presented by Toyota (or simply Monterey Historics) is an annual event held at Laguna Seca Raceway in Monterey, California. Its purpose is to provide an event for historic race cars to compete in.  this weekend at Laguna Seca Raceway in Monterey. They'll be driving such cars as a 1925 Vauxhall 30-98, a 1963 Cobra, a 1959 Devin SS, a 1963 Lotus 23B, a 1956 OSCA-TN and a 1924 Barber-Warnock.

These cars aren't cheap. Most are worth at least $200,000, but in their day, they were the cars the idle rich raced.

``This is a way of showing it off, and it's being used for one of its intended purposes,'' said Tarzana resident Steve Young, a trial lawyer who'll race the Devin. ``It's a piece of history, a piece of functional art.''

Other participating local drivers: Gary Byrd of Studio City, Joel Matta of Toluca Lake, Tom McIntyre of Burbank, Lynn Park of La Canada, Jerry Rosenstock of Encino and Jan Voboril of Topanga.
