CHATTER: EAGLE WRESTLERS LOOK TO SOAR AT OWN TOURNAMENT.


Chaminade of West Hills will be the place to find many of the area's top wrestlers this weekend. The Eagles are hosting the 24-team Best in the Valley tournament starting 9 a.m. Saturday, with the finals scheduled for 4 p.m.

Participants include all of Chaminade's Mission League rivals except Crespi of Encino, as well as other top Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. "I'd say it's up in the air who's going to win this year," Chaminade coach Dan Peiffer Daniel William Peiffer (born March 29, 1951 in Sigourney, Iowa) was an American football center in the National Football League for the Chicago Bears and the Washington Redskins. Alemany of Mission Hills junior Gary Espinoza is looking to reach the finals of his sixth consecutive tournament. Chaminade's Craig Seidenglanz and Sean Cochran are among the participants who have won tournament titles this season.

Keller, O'Green selected preseason All-Americans

Local baseball standouts Steven Keller of Agoura and Chaminade of West Hills senior right-hander Kyran O'Green have been selected to compete in the Under Armour preseason All-American tournament this weekend in Arizona.

Keller, a senior catcher, and O'Green will join players from around the country in a 16-team, wood-bat event that runs today through Sunday at the Arizona Diamondbacks' spring training facility in Tucson.

"Our guys were extremely excited to play," said Rosamond coach Tim Atkerson, whose team suffered a 44-40 setback in the March 3 title game. "I made them watch the video of the CIF (1) (Common Intermediate Format) A standard video format used in videoconferencing. CIF formats are defined by their resolution, and standards both above and below the original resolution have been established. The original CIF is also known as Full CIF (FCIF).  finals and the guys realized that we really didn't play that well and yet we still had a chance to win. "It could've gone either way. But our guys executed really well in the fourth quarter," Atkerson said. "We had a lot of quality stops and a lot of quality possessions on offense. Both teams are so evenly matched, but I thought the difference was how we defended."

Christian Holden and Raymund Bernas each scored 18 points for Rosamond, which plays Jan. 25 at Desert.

 weather denied the Desert Christian of Lancaster girls' soccer team two chances to extend the area's longest unbeaten streak.

But the Knights didn't show any rust from a 12-day layoff Thursday, recording a 15-0 High Desert League victory over Rosamond at Lancaster National Soccer Center to extend their run to 29 in a row.

Robyn Estrada and Kristina Hulse both had hat tricks for Desert Christian (10-0-1), which plays Paraclete of Lancaster at 3p.m. today at the Soccer Center.
