CHATTER: CRESPI SCHEDULES TOUGH.

Most teams replacing a starting quarterback, running back and two offensive linemen would want to ease into the new season -- especially when it already is moving up in league competition.

 lined up a difficult nonleague schedule while playing in Div. X. Then, when the Southern Section needed a team to join Notre Dame Notre Dame IPA: [nɔtʁ dam] is French for Our Lady, referring to the Virgin Mary. In the United States of America, Notre Dame  of Sherman Oaks in moving up to Div. I, Crespi brazenly jumped at the opportunity despite the challenge of being the smallest school in the division.

Venger previously was the head coach at Taft of Woodland Hills.

Joining the pitchers on the first team were Camarillo's Annissa Lagos, Oaks Christian of Westlake Village's Taylor Schlopy and Thousand Oaks' Samantha Takeshita.

Crescenta Valley of La Crescenta's Baillie Kirker, Oaks Christian's Courtney Lee, Thousand Oaks' Marla Mathews and Moorpark's Kristine Priebe were all second-team underclass selections.

 is in first place in the VIBL's seven-inning division. The Conquistadores, who won the VIBL title last summer, moved into sole possession of first by defeating Saugus 11-5 Tuesday.

Pitcher Hill Kerby, outfielder Mike Callahan and shortstop Alex Mejia will represent the Conquistadores in next week's all-star game.

One of ECR's West Valley League rivals is contending for the title in the VIBL's 16-team, 9-inning division. Cleveland entered the week undefeated and holding a slim lead over second-place Camarillo.

In addition to Mejia, two other incoming sophomores are making enough of an impact to earn a spot in the VIBL all-star game: Saugus shortstop Zach Vincej and Saugus outfielder/infielder Stefan Cordes.
