CHATTER: BOYS OF AUTUMN SET TO PLAY IN TOUGH GOODWILL SERIES.

Byline: Lee Barnathan Daily News Staff Writer

The fall is upon us, but summer continues for four area baseball players. Conor Jackson Conor Sims Jackson (nicknamed Co-Jack or Action) was born May 7, 1982 in Austin, Texas. He is a first baseman in Major League Baseball who plays for the Arizona Diamondbacks. He bats right handed and throws right handed. He is 6'2" and roughly 225 pounds.  of El Camino Real El Camino Real (Spanish for The Royal Road or The King's Highway) was the name of a series of pre-automobile highways linking the various New World colonies of Spain:

Between 2000 and 2004, Harrington, a top prospect coming out of high school, was chosen in all five drafts, but never signed  and Jason Kubel Jason James "the Future" Kubel (born May 25, 1982 in Belle Fourche, South Dakota) is a professional baseball player who plays in the outfield for the Minnesota Twins. The four players earned the opportunity with their play in the recent Area Code Games.

``To go out and play with all the best guys is a thrill,'' Jackson said. ``You know at least a couple of guys will be in The Show, so I can one day say, `Oh yeah, I played with them.' ''

The purpose of the Goodwill Series depends on whom you ask. The players want to have fun and test themselves against top-notch competition. The scouts already know about them. Jackson, for example, has trips lined up to Miami (Fla.), Cal, Texas and Tulane.

Founder Bob Williams wants to beat Japan, pure and simple. Japan's 17- and 18-year-olds, he said, play at the level of a Class-A professional team.

To do that, Williams said, he needs the best players - ones such as Harrington, who already beat Japan in a Goodwill Series game in Somerset, N.J.

``It's the experience of a lifetime that will project them into college or the pros,'' Williams said. ``When they get to the pros, they might remember how they were set up with a slider A block of material that holds the read/write head of a magnetic disk.
