"Malik is a real good player, and so is Marquis, so hopefully Fresno State can get two for the price of one," Knox said. "That would be even better. Most likely, they'll offer Marquis, too."

City golf showdown could be first of many

Two of the City Section's most successful girls' golfers had to wait more than a month to finally square off in a Valley 2 League match.

Although neither player broke par, they both enjoyed the challenge in what could be a preview of the City final.

Villela endured a double-bogey on the final hole to finish with a 2-over 39, threestrokes ahead of Lodwig, to lead SanFernando to a 266-322 victory.

"I did enjoy playing with Natalie," said Villela, who has been medalist in all of San Fernando's matches. "But I was a little bit disappointed with my round. Lodwig matched Villela with two birdies, but two double-bogeys were too much to overcome.

"I felt like my putting was pretty good, I just couldn't get it in the hole," Lodwig said. "With both of us not playing as well as we could, it motivates me even more to work hard until the City finals."

Lodwig and Villela will see one another again Monday at the Valley 2 Top Gun tournament at Encino, then the next twoWednesdays at the league finals. Cleveland of Reseda clinched the team championship Wednesday with a 233-246 victory over North Hollywood.

"It was good playing with Angela because it gives me an idea of where I'm at," Lodwig said. "It gives me a lot of hope that if I keep improving and keep working on my game, that I'll be able to play well at City."
