HEAD TO HEAD STEVE SMITH Taft Guard SHAYNE BERRY Chatsworth Guard Smith and Berry are two of the top scorers in the region, both averaging nearly 30 points per game. Smith, a 6-3 guard, has been dominant after bulking up in the offseason and adding 10 pounds to help his endurance and toughness. As a result, he's averaging nine rebounds per game. He also dramatically improved his outside shooting, going from a player reluctant to shooting from the perimeter to one that leads the region in 3-pointers. Berry, 5-11, isn't as big as Smith, but he's a quick, tough, physical player who knows how to score. Both teams have productive role players who add scoring, but the personal battle between these two scoring machines could decide the outcome. Wednesday, 4 p.m. at Taft High school.
