Alemany High plans to break ground on an on-campus gym in March. The boys' and girls' basketball teams, which play their home games at L.A. Baptist, haven't had a gym since it was damaged and condemned in the Northridge Earthquake. . . . The area's best boys' water polo player - Harvard-Westlake's Peter Hudnut - hasn't made a college commitment yet. He visited Pepperdine, the 1997 NCAA NCAA abbr. National Collegiate Athletic Association champion, last week. . . . Buena girls' basketball coach Joe Vaughan didn't think rankings meant much after the Bulldogs, ranked No. 2 in Division I-A, beat unranked Crescenta Valley 60-52 on Saturday. ``(The Falcons) will beat some teams that are ranked, that's for sure,'' Vaughan said. . . . Michelle Palmisano, who played basketball at Thousand Oaks and Vanderbilt, is now living in San Diego and competing as a triathlete tri·ath·lete n. One who competes in a triathlon. as she works toward her doctorate at UC San Diego. Palmisano won the women's 20-24 age group in the United States Triathlon Association championships in October. . . . Antonio Sanchez, an all-conference offensive lineman at Sylmar, committed to Fresno State last week. Sanchez is 6-foot-5-1/2 and 275 pounds.
