CHATSWORTH STARTS FAST, HOLDS ON : CHATSWORTH 24, BELMONT 6.

Byline: Jim Inghram Daily News Staff Writer

Six minutes into the game, Matt Cassel Matt Cassel [CASS-ul] (born May 17, 1982 in Northridge, California) is an American football quarterback for the New England Patriots of the NFL. Youth and high school career  had thrown for 140 yards and Chatsworth had scored 14 points.

It looked like the Chancellors were on their way to an offensive fiesta in its City Section Division playoff quarterfinal with Belmont. But the offense sputtered, and it was the defense that held strong in the 24-6 victory at Belmont on Wednesday.

Cassel had 246 yards passing at the half but completed just 2 of 8 in the second half for 1 yard. With the defense limiting the Sentinels (7-5) to 31 yards on the ground and intercepting six passes, however, it proved more than enough.

``We finally toughened up this game,'' said inside linebacker Eric Harris Eric Harris may refer to:

. ``Our defense has been kind of lagging the past couple of games, and we wanted to come out and have a good game. Our (defensive backs) did a great job and the line did a great job against the run.''
